For millions of Kenyan households, the shortage became obvious in the same place it always does: the supermarket shelf. Popular milk brands began disappearing. Some shops started rationing purchases. In several parts of Nairobi, a 500ml packet became more expensive almost overnight. Yet at the same time, reports emerged of dairy farmers complaining that they still had milk — and in some areas were being paid surprisingly low prices.
