A detective involved in the investigation of the murders of two individuals with ties to President William Ruto's campaign has disclosed a revealing text message sent by one of the suspects, who was a member of the now-defunct Special Service Unit (SSU), to his colleague following the incident.

During a testimony presented at the Kahawa Law Courts on March 26, the witness disclosed that one of the suspects had queried his colleague about the necessity of revisiting the crime scene to eliminate evidence.

The witness further revealed that an analysis of mobile phone records uncovered a message exchange between the suspect and his colleague, indicating a discussion about revisiting the crime scene on October 16, 2022, at 3:57 pm. In the exchange, the suspect sought clarification on revisiting the scene, to which the colleague responded affirmatively, mentioning that another officer had already cleared the area.

The referenced crime scene is believed to be the Aberdares National Park, where it is suspected that the bodies of the two Indians, allegedly murdered in July 2022, were disposed of.

Moreover, detectives shared with the court that vehicles suspected to have been involved in the crime were traced to the national park shortly after its official closing time. Forensic evidence indicated the presence of the suspects' vehicle at one of the park entrances at 6:34 pm, with suspicions raised regarding a potential collaboration between the suspects and park officers, as the vehicle's details were not recorded at the gate.

Earlier testimony from a DCI detective detailed a trip to Aberdare National Park on October 19, 2022, where various materials were collected for forensic analysis. This expedition was prompted by vehicle tracking data retrieved from the suspected vehicle, indicating its presence in the area during the time of the incident.

The victims, Mohammed Zaid Sami and Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, along with their taxi driver Nicodemus Mwania Mwange, were allegedly abducted by SSU officers weeks before the 2022 polls. Reports suggest that the victims were aiding President Ruto's campaign efforts.

Following the disappearance, investigations were initiated, coinciding with Ruto's directive to disband the special police unit attached to the DCI.
