Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga disclosed on Thursday, July 20, that he was suffering from a severe flu, which prevented him from participating in the ongoing demonstrations.
In an interview with NTV, Raila revealed that he sought medical attention and was gradually recovering from the illness.
The former premier addressed concerns about his absence from the protests that commenced on Wednesday, July 19.
"I have a terrible flu which put me down for a while and I got medical attention. I am currently getting better, and I will be okay," Raila stated.
Despite his absence, Raila urged his supporters to participate in the Friday, July 21, protests, calling it the grand finale of the demonstrations.
He emphasized that the protests were intended to improve the lives of all Kenyans and not just those who support the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
"Everything is okay. These protests are not for Raila, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, or Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. This is for all Kenyans. They do not have to be present for the demonstrations to go on.
"We have coordinators who have been organizing the demos, and everything is going on as planned," he clarified.
Additionally, Raila refuted claims made by President William Ruto that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was funding the protests, dismissing them as lies aimed at manipulating the emotions of Kenyans.
The Azimio leader also maintained that he was not seeking a handshake with his arch-rival, as alleged by Kenya Kwanza leaders.
Meanwhile, Azimio la Umoja detailed their plans for the Friday protests, scheduled to begin at 10 am.
The Raila Odinga-led faction called on their supporters to gather at Jevanjee Gardens (CBD), Imara Daima Grounds (Embakasi South), and Kibra Kamukunji Grounds (Kibra Constituency) by the specified time.
