More than ten days after a wall of ice, rock and mud ripped through a Himalayan valley in Nepal, rescuers have continued to locate survivors.
In the Nuwakot district, the force of the slide left many homes partially buried under debris, cutting off access and endangering residents.
On 5 September, Nepal's Armed Police Force discovered Chandika Shrestha, a 64‑year‑old woman, alive on the fourth floor of her home, which had been partly submerged in mud.
The finding came after extensive searches of the affected area, highlighting the persistence of emergency teams despite harsh conditions.
Following her discovery, Shrestha was airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu for medical treatment. Authorities said she was in stable condition after the evacuation, though details of her injuries were not disclosed.
The rescue underscores ongoing challenges in the region, where additional mud‑slides and flooding remain a threat. Officials have warned that further operations may be needed as they assess the full impact of the disaster on the valley's communities.
